Summary

This is an information website. It has no user accounts, no login, no sign-up form and no payment processing. We do not ask you for personal data in order to read anything here, and we do not sell or rent data to anyone.

The only personal data most visitors ever provide is an email address, and only if they choose to email us. Everything below explains the detail.

Who we are

CryptoMarket Wales operates the website at cryptomarket.wales. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, we are the data controller for personal data processed through this site.

What we collect

Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it to respond and to act on any correction you report.

Technical information. Like essentially every website, our hosting infrastructure processes technical data when a page is requested: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, referring page and timestamp. This is generated automatically by the request itself and is used for delivering the site securely and reliably.

What we do not collect. We do not operate user accounts. We do not ask for your name, address, date of birth or financial details. We do not process payments. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not collect any of the identity documentation that a crypto exchange would require — if a page appears to ask you for that, you are not on this site.

Why we process it, and on what lawful basis

To respond to correspondence. Where you email us, our lawful basis is legitimate interests — specifically, replying to someone who has contacted us and correcting our content where you report an error.

To operate and secure the site. Technical request data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in delivering a functioning, secure website and preventing abuse.

To understand aggregate usage. Where analytics are used, the basis is legitimate interests in understanding which pages are useful, or consent where the law requires it for the technology involved. See the cookies section below.

Cookies and analytics

This site is a static website and does not set advertising cookies, tracking pixels for third parties, or cross-site profiling technology.

Where privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics are used to understand which pages are read, they are configured to avoid collecting personal data where possible and are not used to profile individuals or to target advertising. Any strictly necessary cookies exist only to make the site function.

Third-party links

This site links to external organisations, including regulators, government bodies and cryptoasset platforms. None of those links is a commercial arrangement — we receive no fee for them, as stated in our editorial policy and in the footer of every page.

When you follow a link away from this site, you are subject to the privacy policy of the destination, not this one. The destination may record the page you arrived from, as any site can. We receive nothing back from them about you.

We have no control over how third parties handle your data and we are not responsible for their practices. If you open an account with a cryptoasset platform, read its privacy policy — it will collect substantially more about you than we ever do, because the Money Laundering Regulations require it to.

How long we keep things

Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter and to maintain a record of corrections, and is then deleted. Technical server logs are retained for a short period for security and reliability purposes and are then removed or aggregated.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to be informed about how your data is used; to request access to the personal data we hold about you; to have inaccurate data corrected; to request erasure in certain circumstances; to restrict or object to processing; and to data portability where applicable.

To exercise any of these, email contact@cryptomarket.wales. We will respond within one month. In practice, for most visitors the honest answer will be that we hold nothing about you beyond an email exchange, if there was one.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, is built as static files with no database of visitor information, and applies standard security headers. There is no user account system to compromise and no store of personal data to breach, which is the strongest privacy protection available: not holding the data in the first place.

Children

This site is not directed at children and is not suitable for them. Cryptoasset services in the UK are available only to adults, and every registered platform requires identity verification confirming age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. For anything significant we will describe what changed rather than silently amending the text.
